ÖZET
Günümüzde teknolojik gelişmelerin, sermayenin küreselleşmesinin ve tekelleşmesinin medya üzerinde büyük bir etkiye ve öneme sahip olduğu bilinmektedir. Medya çalışanlarının görevlerini yerine getirirken başat olarak evrensel etik kuralları gözetip meslek etiği ilkelerine uygun olarak topluma, kurumlara ve bireylere karşı sorumluluklarını yerine getirmesi beklenmektedir. Ancak onların söz konusu sorumluluklarını yerine getirirken sermaye sahiplerinin çıkarlarını gözeten bir görev bilinci ile davranması da beklenmektedir. Bu beklentileri belli başlı bir çerçeveye oturtmak için birçok yaklaşımın olduğu ve uygulamaya konulması için düzenlemelerin yapıldığı bilinmektedir. Mevcut çalışma ise meslek etiği ilkelerine uygun davranarak görevini yürütmeye çalışan bir akademisyenin öldürülmesi olayını konu almaktadır. Söz konusu olay, 2 Ocak 2019’da cereyan eden Ceren Damar Şenel cinayetidir. Bu cinayet olayına ulusal yazılı basından seçilmiş üç gazetede medya etiği gözetilerek nasıl yer verildiği incelenmiştir. Meslek etiği ilkelerine uygun bir davranış sergilediği belirtilen maktulün bu davranışının işlenen cinayetle ilişkilendirilip ilişkilendirilmediği yönünde gizli kalmış anlamları ortaya çıkarmak ve yorumlamak kullanılan içerik analizi yöntemiyle irdelenmiştir. Sonuç olarak ulusal yazılı basından seçilmiş olan gazetelerde belli bir zamanda ve yerde söz konusu cinayetle ilgili haberlere yer verilirken benzeri eylemlerin tekrarının yaşanmaması yönünde mesajlar aktarılmış, maktulün görevini icra ederken etik bir davranış sergilediği belirtilmekte ve bunun cinayetle ilişkilendirilmesine dikkati çekmeye çalışıldığına kısmen rastlanmaktadır.

THE REPRESENTATION OF THE MURDER OF CEREN DAMAR ŞENEL IN NEWSPAPERS: A QUALITATIVE ANALYSIS OF THREE NATIONAL PUBLICATIONS
ABSTRACT
It is well known that technological developments, the globalisation of capital and monopolisation have a significant impact and importance on the media today. Media workers are expected to fulfil their responsibilities to society, institutions and individuals in accordance with universal ethical rules and professional ethics principles while performing their duties. However, it is also expected that they act with a sense of duty that takes into account the interests of capital owners while fulfilling their responsibilities. It is known that there are many approaches to establish a framework for these expectations and that regulations have been put in place for their implementation. The present study focuses on the murder of an academic who was trying to carry out his duties in accordance with the principles of professional ethics. The incident in question is the murder of Ceren Damar Şenel on 2 January 2019. This study examines how three selected national newspapers covered this murder case in accordance with media ethics. This study examines how three newspapers selected from the national print media covered this murder case in accordance with media ethics. Using content analysis, the study sought to reveal and interpret hidden meanings regarding whether the victim’s behaviour, which was described as consistent with professional ethics, was linked to the murder. As a result, it was found that while the selected national newspapers reported on the murder at a specific time and place, they conveyed messages aimed at preventing similar incidents from recurring, noted that the victim had acted ethically while performing his duties, and partially attempted to draw attention to the connection between this and the murder.
